2021 Prasal Lake-Travel Guide and Itinerary

Prasal Lake, also known as Parasal Lake, is a small lake located about 50 kilometers from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh. It is also a popular destination for travel lovers and locals. There is a three-story pagoda-style temple on the riverside, dedicated to the holy Prashar, which is considered a holy lake, and locals in the nearby area continue to frequent here throughout the year. It is located at an altitude of 2,730 meters and, according to legend, the true depth of the lake is still unknown.

This place is open to tourists all year round, including winter. Although most of the tourism here takes place in summer, many people come to the lake because it is completely covered in thick snow. I will discuss in this article how to plan a trip to this beautiful lake.

Prashar lake trek There is also a small Phumdi island in Lake. I mean the little green spots in the lake in the image above. Check out this link for more information on what Phumdi Island is. These floating vegetation continue to change positions, but very slowly.

In summer, it touches one part of the lake, and then slowly floats to another part in winter. The lakeside temple was built by Raja Ban Sen de Mandi in the 14th century. This is a very beautiful temple with a slate roof and beautiful wood carvings.

Small lakes, dense forests, beautiful temples, cold weather, fragrance of birds and flowers, snow-capped mountains in the distance, beautiful natural scenery. If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, this is a perfect place; and spend some time in the quiet hills.

This whole area is a great place to relax and connect with nature. From this place you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view of the Snow Mountains, which is a great sight. In addition to modern convenience facilities, pollution-free, clean, quiet, and sparsely populated are some of the main characteristics of the entire area. In short, this is a must-visit place for anyone who has the slightest interest in traveling.

How to plan a trip to Prasha Lake

There is a path down to the lake, until it is next to it. Therefore, you can easily get there by car or motorcycle. If you live in a place like Chandigarh or Delhi, you can even take this trip on weekends. If you are looking to have fun hiking, you can park your vehicle in any town along the way and walk to the lake.

First I will explain the route to the lake and then I will mention other details such as accommodation, safety tips and the availability of basic facilities. For the purpose of this article, while suggesting an itinerary, I assume that you are starting your journey from Delhi.

How to get to Prasha Lake

The most common way to reach Prasha Lake is to reach the small town of Mandi, which is about 415 kilometers from Delhi and 170 kilometers from Chandigarh. After reaching Mandi, you will follow a narrow 50-kilometer road to the top of the mountain where the lake is located. The detailed description of the route is as follows.

 Delhi to Chandigarh

There is nothing to say about this part of the trip, but it will be very long and monotonous. It is strongly recommended to depart from Delhi as early as possible as the total journey to Prasat can be as long as 1011 hours. The only good thing about this trip is that the road to Chandigarh is super smooth.

 Chandigarh to Mandi

From Chandigarh, the route is Roopnagar-Ghanauli-Kiratpur Sahib-Bilaspur-Barmana-Sundernagar-Mandi. The journey to Chandigarh should have been on a fast track, but this is where it started to slow down. The first obstacle is Chandigarh. It doesn't matter whether you take a detour or enter the city; you will definitely waste some time in traffic here.

After passing through Chandigarh, the road to Kiratpur Sahib will become smoother, after which you will see the hills for the first time. From here, the initial road will be bad, and then until Mandi, it will remain a mixture of bad and average. This part of the trip will last 4 to 5 hours.

 Mandi to Prasha Lake

Prasha Lake is about 55 kilometers from Mandi. The route will be Mandi-Bijani-Kamande-Baj-Prasal Lake. The condition of this road is highly dependent on your travel time, but it will be average at best.

If you came here during the monsoon, even this section will have several bad sections full of sleet. This is a narrow winding road, the whole way is very steep, going up to the top. I highly recommend driving slowly and carefully, because there are two forms of traffic here.

Since there are not many vehicles that often travel this route, locals tend to accelerate, especially when going downhill. Although the distance is only over 50 kilometers, it takes 2.5 to 3 hours to reach Prashar Lake from Mandi.

Kullu via Bajaura to Prashar Lake

70-80% of the people arrive at the lake and follow the above route via Mandi. However, there is another
